What design challenges did the Kapunda Pool shade installation present?

The Light Regional Council needed to increase sun safety and patron comfort at the Kapunda Swimming Pool without impeding pedestrian traffic or cluttering the immediate poolside perimeter. Traditional multi-post shade structures risked creating sightline blockages for lifeguards and physical obstructions for swimmers.

How did Weathersafe engineer a solution for Light Regional Council?

Weathersafe's project consultants conducted an on-site inspection to develop a custom footprint matching the pool's layout. The chosen solution was a heavy-duty Cantilever Shade Structure spanning 12m × 7.5m.

By anchoring structural steel supports along one side of the existing concrete bench seating, the canopy extends directly over the spectator zone without requiring forward columns. The canopy utilises premium Monotec 370 shade cloth in 'Bundena', selected to seamlessly match a pre-existing shade structure on the opposite end of the site.

Why is this turnkey cantilever design optimised for South Australian summers?

Managed end-to-end by Weathersafe's in-house installation team, the project was delivered as a full turnkey solution. The Monotec 370 fabric provides high round-the-clock UV block retention and structural stability under tension, prompting the council to announce across social media:

Our brand new shade sail is up, bringing extra comfort and sun protection for everyone.
