Why did Clare and Gilbert Valley Council require a new playground shade structure?

The Clare Lions Park Playground on Victoria Road is a central hub for families in the region. To ensure the playground remains accessible and safe during extreme South Australian summer conditions, the council required a long-term, durable shade solution to protect children from harsh UV radiation and reduce equipment surface temperatures.

How did Weathersafe design a cohesive local infrastructure solution?

A critical requirement from the Clare and Gilbert Valley Council was visual alignment with existing infrastructure. Weathersafe engineered a massive multi-sail solution featuring four high-tension shade sails supported by an eight-column array.

To unify the visual identity of the town's recreation precinct, the shade cloth was specified in 'Bundena Blue'. This choice perfectly colour-matches the pre-existing commercial canopy at the nearby Valleys Lifestyle Centre Pool.

What long-term engineering benefits does the new playground sail offer?

Designed for long-term structural integrity, the eight columns were deep-set to withstand local high-wind events. The multi-sail configuration creates a dynamic overlapping canopy that optimizes shadow coverage throughout the hottest parts of the day, ensuring the regional playground remains cool, compliant, and sun-safe for years to come.
